LAHORE:
The United Nations have highlighted the damage caused by the rains of the monsoon in Pakistan that led the authorities to declare disaster areas in Punjab parts, where lethal clouds and sudden floods killed dozens in a single day.
In a report published on its website, the UN said that the crisis that takes place (rivers on the rise, forecasts below, the fragile rural houses collapsed and the transport of cut links) has revived the marked memories of the catastrophic floods of 2022 that submerged one third of the country and affected more than 33 million people.
With the skies prepared to open another round of torrential monsoon, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a flood prior to alert throughout the province on Saturday, warning of an imminent flood in all the main rivers and its tributaries.
Nationally, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued a flood alert throughout the country from July 19 to 25, warning sudden floods and landslides in multiple regions.
In Punjab, the authorities anticipate a potentially critical flood situation that begins on July 21, with the risk of reaching July 22, particularly in the low areas along the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, Sutlej and Indo rivers.
Floods loom how the province is also staggering through heavy downpours, with at least 123 people who lost their lives and 462 were injured in climate -related incidents throughout the province in the current season of the Monzón, which also saw damage to more than 150 buildings.

“In line with the instructions of the main minister, all emergency protocols must be in place in advance,” he said, he added that emergency control rooms must remain with personnel and active throughout the day.
Fourth monsoon spell
Meanwhile, the PDMA has also predicted the fourth spell of monsoon rain that will begin on July 20, continuing until July 25. Showers and wind storms are expected in most Punjab districts.
