LAHORE:
An accused session was developed in the Punjab Assembly while opposition legislators lashed out at the government for what they called “scripted” and “politically” politically “granted to legislators, workers and supporters of the anti -terrorist courts in the cases of May 9.
The attached leader of the opposition, Muhammad Moeenuddin Riaz, directed the criticism, stating that the ATC watched not only undermine justice but also deepened the political division.
“Try what I can, but cannot erase Imran Khan from people’s hearts,” he said, accusing the government of prioritizing political revenge on pressing national issues such as flood management.
In addition, he claimed that public funds were spending on orchestrating cases against PTI members instead of addressing land realities.
In protest, the opposition organized a boycott of the procedures, briefly leaving the house.
Responding to the protest, the head of PML-N, the whip Rana Muhammad Arshad, condemned the position of the PTI, questioning his moral authority to speak of justice after the violence of May 9. He accused the opposition of supporting sedition and undermining state institutions.
The Treasury MPA, Amjad Ali Javed, raised a separate issue, highlighting the misuse of section 97-A of the Provincial Motorized Vehicle Law (amendment) of 2016 by a traffic guardian and a police officer. He affirmed that the section had not yet been officially applied and demanded actions. The matter was sent to the relevant committee.
Javed also urged the Government to fulfill its 3% work share for special people, claiming that the implementation remains insufficient. In a similar line, Treasury MPa Sohail Khan Zahid requested that agriculture taxes be renounced in areas affected by floods.
Muhammad Shoaib Siddiqui of IPP asked Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz to address poor drainage conditions in the Lahore rail colony and adjacent areas after recent rains.
Upon returning from their strike, opposition members tried to resume speeches against ATC sentences, but the president did not grant permission. This led to greater slogaining from opposition banks.
As tensions intensified, a legislator pointed out the lack of quorum. With the insufficient members present to continue the procedures, the president postponed the session until 2 pm on July 28.
