KARACHI:

Uninvited guests remain a nightmare for hosts, but the worst are those who enter parties to steal purses and bags left unattended by ladies too busy with ceremonies, gossip or simply checking on the children.

Police claimed to have arrested a man who, along with his wife and daughters, was stealing purses and bags from guests at wedding ceremonies in north Nazimabad.

Shahrah Noor Jahan police recovered stolen wallets and gift envelopes with wedding money from the possession of Rashid Ghani.

According to SHO Abid Shah, they had received complaints about theft from wedding halls in North Nazimadaad.

Police used CCTV footage to identify the suspect who was arrested at a wedding hall.

Ghani’s wife and daughters were also involved in the robberies, SHO Shah said.

He said the suspects often joined the wedding guests, creating distractions to steal wallets containing wedding envelopes. The accused would then move to another wedding hall to commit another crime.

Ghani, a resident of Nazimabad No4, claimed that he worked as a tailor and electrician but turned out to be a criminal due to unemployment. The stolen bags contained mobile phones, cash and jewellery.

The police registered a case and handed it over to the investigation team for further investigation.
