A cunning user showed that it can make the steam cover more portable making it a brick

  • A Steam Deck user had a problem with the volume of the games cover
  • Then he created the ‘steam brick’, a stripped version
  • I successfully created a portable third of the original size

The Steam deck has taken the market in the hands of the games since its initial launch, which allows users to play the best PC games in a much smaller and more portable factor. However, a person decided that his OLED steam cover was not portable enough, and decided to take the matter in his own hands.

Discharge of responsibility of the User of Crastinator-Pro in the Github page Read “I am not an intelligent man”, after he describes his thought process behind the mass modification process, which involved stripping the portable screen and controller. According to the post, he only found using the cover with ar or a television glasses and, most of the time, leaving it at home because he was too bulky for his taste.

Crastinator-Pro began testing if the steam platform would still start if everything except the motherboard fan disconnected. He discovered that he would, writing that “the output screen on USB will begin and accept peripherals through an external dock.” After more knocking down, he made a basic case to house the ‘console’ brick. The greatest obstacle here was to ensure that the case would not melt from any heat generated by the game sessions.

The final result is really a wonder of engineering. The ‘brick’ is approximately one third of the steam cover size, four times smaller than its OEM case and 24% lighter. The dimensions of ‘Brick’ are 7.6 x 4.9 x 0.8 inches / 193.5 x 126.5 x 21 mm, and weighs 16.7 Oz / 474 g, compared to the original of 4.6 x 11.7 x 1.9 inches and a weight of 1.41 pounds.
