- A future Apple Watch could debut a touch -sensitive glass framework
- The report comes from a Chinese filter in Weibo
- It seems to be based on an Apple patent published this week.
Apple seems to be working on a future design update to Apple Watch that could see the company replace its chassis housing and physical buttons with a touch -sensitive glass frame, based on new reports.
The perspective of an Apple Watch with a glass frame and a tactile interaction has been floated on the Chinese Weibo social networks platform by Leaker Instant Digital, specifically in the context that a totally glass Watch Watch could arrive before a rumored iPhone All-Glass.
However, the moment of escape and proximity suggest that this information really comes from an Apple patent that published on March 27, first seen by Patently Apple.
The patent, seen by PakGazette and creatively folded “portable electronic device with glass housing” seems to indicate that Apple is considering a future in which its best Apple Watch models have a glass housing and a side wall with tactile sensitivity, instead of a titanium or aluminum chassis.
This is what we know.
A Future of Apple Watch glass
The patent refers to a portable device with a glass housing that covers both the Apple Watch screen and “a side wall that extends from the front wall.” Essentially, the front and sides of the clock would be made of glass.
This would not only look pretty good, but would allow Apple to convert the lateral walls of the Apple Watch on a touch -sensitive screen that could show information and receive touch inputs.
The benefit, of course, would be that information and entry could change according to the context. For example, if you were running a stopwatch, the tactile buttons on the side could offer start and stop functions. Change to listening to music, and these buttons can show buttons to pause or omit clues.
However, this is a possible iteration of a future Apple Watch that is probably years away, so do not expect an Apple Watch Ultra 3 or 11 Series of Glasés in September.
Apple has also patented an Apple Watch with a folding, double screen and cameras, and a recent report by Mark Gurman by Bloomberg, suggests that the company is considering adding cameras to the device to turn it into a laptop that can contextualize the surrounding world.
For me, the idea of a more subtle design adjustment with touch -sensitive glass seems a bit more refined than to click on a camera in the Apple Watch, but there is no reason for Apple not to do both at some time.
Naturally, of course, there are all the possibilities that this patent will never see daylight, and remains an idea only on paper.
More immediately, we know that Apple plans to add blood pressure monitoring of some kind to its 2025 more premium models. Meanwhile, those who expect Apple Watch 3 can expect a rather significant plastic redesign, which has given Apple some design headaches according to the latest reports.
