- Google Cloud Outage affected 40 locations and even Cloudflare
- Spotify, Discord and more fell, like some work space applications
- Google blamed a doubtful update of the interruption, promises “doing better”
Several popular websites disconnected yesterday after Google Cloud experienced an important interruption that saw users who could not access the tastes of Spotify, Discord and Cloudflare for some time.
When impacting more than 40 locations and 26 services, the interruption of the systems was reduced at 11:46 am PT on Thursday, June 12, but at 12:30 PM PT, Google reported that the problem was solved mainly, except in the United States-Central1 region (Iowa).
The company said that it had identified the cause of the problem and that engineering teams were working on a recovery, but some users continued to experience problems at 12:41 PM PT.
Google Cloud Outage demolishes popular sites
Although Google Cloud declared that the interruption began at 11:46 am PT, Cloudflare also experienced interruptions of 11:19 am PT, blaming Google Cloud for the problems.
Among the popular sites affected were Spotify, Discord, Snapchat, character.AI, cursor and request for replication. Downdector also shows peaks in the number of complaints from users trying to access some Google services, such as Google Maps and YouTube.
According to the OTACE Tracker, some work space applications such as Drive, Docs and Meet were also affected by the interruption.
“We deeply regret the impact for all our users and their clients that caused the interruption/interruption of the service. Large and small companies trust Google Cloud with their workloads and we will do better,” the company wrote in its mini incident report.
The report blames an automated update not valid to the Google Cloud API administration system for the interruption, claiming an almost complete recovery in two hours. However, some delays to the restoration continued: “Several products had a moderate residual impact (for example, arrears) for an hour after the main problem was mitigated and a small number was recovered after that.”
A complete registration of the incident is available on the Google Cloud status website, and the company has promised a full report to follow.
