- The WA-J1 aircraft will be sent worldwide in July
- Three combined conductors: piezo, flat and dynamic
- The price becomes around $ 270 / £ 200 / au $ 424
The Japanese audio brand Aviot has introduced what they say are the first headphones of 3 “Tribrid” drivers in the world, the WA-J1, and has made a special edition in collaboration with the J-Pop Star Hyde.
What is a tribrid? According to Aviot, it is a piezoermic controller, a flat magnetic controller and a dynamic controller, and together they offer “an overwhelming information density and unprecedented acoustic performance.”
And they do it for an incredibly long time: the battery life is claimed 140 hours, although it is not specified if that is with cancellation of active noise or not (I have assume no).
When three drivers are better than one
As Aviot explains, the Piezoal driver is there for the high frequencies, and the flat and dynamic conductors are placed coaxially to take care of the media and the minimums, all with very low distortion and very little phase disturbance. The result, says the firm, is very high precision.
Compatible audio formats include Audio LDAC and Bluetooth Le (the latter through a future update), as well as the mandatory AAC and SBC, and there is an adaptive noise cancellation with a mode of transparency.
Headphones also offer 3D space audio. This option is adjustable through the control dial, which allows you to spatialize the audio to adapt to your personal preferences, from very flat sonic spaces to very reverberant. And for players, there is a low latency mode to reduce delay.
The headphones will go on sale in Japan in July 2025 with a price of 39,600 yen, approximately $ 270 / £ 200 / au $ 424, and will be available to send to everyone.
