Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Release Date: What We Know
AKotSK Season 2 has no confirmed release date yet. However, it was among many HBO shows renewed for another season last November. At that time, HBO also confirmed that it will premiere in 2027, so we won’t have to wait long for the return of the high fantasy series.
Cameras are also rolling their next chapter. talking to AV Club showrunner Ira Parker revealed that “we’re already doing scenes together,” which bodes well for next year’s release.
If (and it’s a big if) principal photography and post-production on the second season of the HBO Max show is completed well before the end of 2026, I wouldn’t rule out January or February 2027. Fingers crossed that happens.
Is there a trailer for season 2 of The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
No, and I bet there won’t be one until the end of 2026 at the earliest. Once one is posted, I’ll add it to this section of the guide.
Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Cast: Confirmed and Rumored
Full spoilers follow AKotSK season 1. Possible spoilers for season 2 are also discussed.
Here is the confirmed cast for AKotSK season 2 so far:
- Peter Claffey as Duncan ‘Dunk’ the Tall
- Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon V ‘Egg’ Targaryen
At this time, Dunk and Egg are the only two characters returning next season. That’s because season 2 is based on The sworn swordalso known as the second story in the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ novel trilogy. That book does not feature people who appear in AKotSKdebut season or The errant knightthat is, the first entry in the aforementioned book saga. In short, characters like Maekar and Aerion Targaryen, Lyonel Baratheon and Raymun Fossoway will not appear.
However, there will be new characters to love and hate in equal measure and, speaking to The AV Club, Parker has already highlighted three that viewers will want to keep an eye out for.
“The sworn sword…it’s my favorite novel in many ways, with Rohanne Webber or the Red Widow, Ser Bennis and Ser Eustace, who are these classic characters,” Parker said. “I can’t say much, but we have three absolutely brilliant actors coming to play these roles… [but] it feels good to see [season two] Little by little we came together.”
Peter Claffey (Dunk) clarifies that Henry Cavill will not be joining the Game of Thrones universe after online speculation: “Just to clarify, what Dex was referring to in the interview had nothing to do with Henry Cavill’s entry into the show or the GOT universe (I wish!)… pic.twitter.com/RLWzfPlRVWFebruary 15, 2026
While Parker is tight-lipped about the actors who will play the aforementioned trio, Claffey has downplayed suggestions that the witcher Alumnus Henry Cavill will join the cast.
As reported by the Thrones X/Twitter fan account Westerosies (see above), Claffey stopped his co-star Ansell from mentioning something to do with Cavill at a recent fan convention. As rumors circulated about Cavill’s possible involvement, Claffey took to Instagram to pour more cold water on said speculation.
Of course, this could be misdirection on Claffey’s part to keep the surprise that Cavill will be part of the process. I guess we’ll have to wait A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will be out to find out.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Story Speculation
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, which could actually be titled A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms (more on why later), it doesn’t have a plot synopsis yet.
However, that won’t stop us from talking about his story. As I mentioned above, it will adapt The sworn swordalso known as the second entry in George RR Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ franchise. Fans of the books, then, will already know what to expect from it.
For the rest of you, however, know that Possible spoilers follow immediately AKotSK season 2. So if you don’t want to know anything else, skip to the next section and/or read my spoiler-less. A Knight of the Seven KThe ending of ingdoms season 1 is explained instead.
Let’s start with the name of the next season, which many expect to be called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2.
However, in one of the final scenes of last season, Egg informs Dunk that there are actually nine kingdoms, not seven. That results in a new title card, also known as A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms (AKotNK), which is shown before the season 1 end credits roll for the last time, which has led some to believe that this is the official title of the upcoming season.
So will it be? In a conversation with Variety, Parker joked, “Maybe I’m being too facetious… People are going to have a reaction, and I’m going to have a reaction after not seeing it for a few months. And we’ll see. I like it. A lot of the wonderful creatives I worked with liked it, too. It came from an honest place. It’s all true. It’s nine realms at that point.”
The other big question on viewers’ minds is: where are Dunk and Egg going? I won’t reveal the places they will visit, but Parker has already confirmed the return of a place he Thrones Fans will be familiar. “They’re going to Dorne,” he admitted. “I’ll let people tune into season 2 to see how much of that we cover.”
As for how many episodes there will be, Parker confirmed to Collider that, like season 1, there will be six episodes, each lasting between 35 and 40 minutes.
For long-time fans of Martin’s literary works, this will come as no surprise. After all, each short story is the length of a novella, that is, it tells a short story about Dunk and Egg. But, considering season 2 will follow its predecessor in being as close to an authentic adaptation of its source material as possible. Parker told Collider that “we[‘ll] Never change history. The beginning is the beginning, the middle is the middle, and the end is the end.” There also won’t be many, if any, creative deviations from the original plot.
Has HBO already announced season 3 of The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Nothing has been announced publicly, but HBO would be crazy not to renew A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for at least one more season.
In fact, with the final entry in the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ book series (unless Martin writes another novel, which could be) The mysterious knightIt would make sense to greenlight a third season.
When you consider that AKotSK Season 1 averaged nearly 13 million weekly viewers on HBO alone before its sixth and final episode aired (per Variety) on February 22 and 23, there’s clearly an appetite for more, too.
A third and final season couldn’t be the end of the road for Dunk and Egg either. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Parker revealed that Martin has shared with him 12 outlines of unpublished Dunk and Egg stories that “take them through their lives.”
In an interview with The Wrap, Parker expressed his desire to “do four [seasons] with Egg the boy, four with Egg the Prince and four with Egg the king, but do them every 10 years. So make a pocket, Peter and Dexter can go away, have their careers, and then in 10 years we’ll come back and do another four of these,” which would be a fun way to approach things creatively.
So there’s the potential for many more episodes on HBO Max and many of the world’s best streaming services after season 3. And considering Dunk and Egg have become favorites of casual fans, as they were among Thrones devotees before AKotSK The debut of season 1, the more seasons the better, I say.
