- Framework says that laptop 12 is the “purest demonstration” of the company’s vision
- Will come in a five -colored option and will be difficult to break, easy to repair
- There is no word about prices, but early orders begin in April, sending in mid -2025
Do you remember the One laptop project per child (OLPC)? The super ambitious initiative, which was launched in 2005, sought to provide lasting and lasting laptops to young students in developing countries at a time when it is estimated that one billion children had little access to education and there is no access to computers.
OPC introduced the XO-1 laptop computer in 2007, with a unique energy efficiency design, a sun readable screen and mesh network capabilities. The objective was to sell it for $ 100 per unit, although the costs finally exceeded expectations. There were also logistics challenges, such as limited Internet access and lack of teacher training.
Now, the frame, the company behind a range of modular laptops, has entered the Laptop Framework 12, a convertible 12.2 -inch tactile screen “durable, repairable and improvable” that reminds me of that project. Surely it is not a coincidence that the Framework founder and CEO, Nirav Patel, has worked in OPC, creating open -source chamber libraries and computer vision for the sugar operating system on XO laptops.
“Most Pure Manifestation” by Marcowork Vision
Patel says that the new laptop framework 12 is: “The purest manifestation of our vision and philosophy of the product in the frame, and is in many ways the product that I started creating the company.”
Available in five colors, each with an optional color pencil, presents a TPU that absorbs the excess shock on rigid PC/ABS plastic, with an internal metal structure for durability. And because it comes from the frame, if you break it, it will be easy to repair.
It can be small, but it is also powerful. As Patel explains, “instead of using a typical processor of small nucleus, we brought the 13th full gene processor in the i3 and i5 variants. We enable support for up to 48 GB of RAM DDR5-5200, 2 TB of NVME and Wi-Fi 6e storage, all of which are modular and updateable ”. The 1920 × 1200 screen offers> 400 brightness nits along with tact support and optical pencil.
“Although we had students in mind when we started developing this product two years ago, we found it through prototypes that each adult who tried also wanted one!” Patel says.
It is not yet known about prices (it certainly will not be $ 100), but we should know soon, since it is expected to be available for pre-pedd in April, with shipments in mid-2015. As always, you can choose between Windows or Linux.
