- New Apple TV device still on the way to the late 2025, says the report
- According to reports, Apple plans to make it significantly cheaper
- Clemed updates seem to be relatively lower and predictable
I have had all Apple TV generations from the first, and you will have to get my Apple TV 4K out of my cold dead hands. Therefore, I could expect that it is really excited about the perspective of a new model at the end of this year, after all, there have been three years of possible technological improvements since it was launched in 2022. But I feel quite disappointed by the last report.
According to the “reliable source” of Macrumors, Apple is “very likely” to replace the current 4K Apple TV with a newer model before the end of 2025.
That fits the usual Apple schedule for your TV transmitter; We are not in an annual update cycle in the iPhone style with these devices. But the only thing that sounds really interesting to me about this informed device is that it can be considerably cheaper than the current model. That’s great if you don’t have one and want one. But what if you are already owner of Apple TV?
Apple TV 4K 2025: What to expect
The informed improvements are quite predictable: Wi-Fi 7 (which many Apple devices do not admit; Apple’s current macBook models have 6E), the Apple Design of Bluetooth/Wi-Fi chip and a newer processor. 8K’s support is unlikely.
Do not be misunderstood. A softer processor that is even more receptive would be good, as well as passing through an uncompressed audio (although it is stated that this feature also reaches existing models).
But a key part of my lack of emotion is that Apple TV 4K is already one of the best television streamers and has been for years, and that is more about software than hardware, and the things that bother me, such as Siri’s frequent inability to even understand very simple voice searches, they are also software.
I want my television streamer to be the least interesting and striking kit in my house: at the end of a long day, when children have finally lying or got out, I want to press a button, get a lot of things to see and press the game. Whenever you see and sound good, and Apple TV+ in Apple TV 4K does both, that’s all that matters to me; I receive my recommendations from people and publications instead of AI or algorithms, so I am not really interested in any.
And after years of listening to how the next Apple TV will be the one that is excellent for the games, I am quite cynical about it: I have multiple consoles and hand hand for me and the children, and we do not bother with the games on Apple TV.
That means that I am really struggling to think about a feature that Apple could add that it would make me want to update beyond the usual “Look the new bright!” I am often a fan.
I hope that the new model is pleasantly surprised, but I suspect that this update will be mainly financial: a cheaper and slightly better version than we already have is more about obtaining new customers than existing exciting ones.
It is not that a new Apple TV is bad. It is that the current one is so good.
