The leading cybersecurity company AMTSO has just presented its “first” standards for VPN tests.
AMTSO, abbreviation for the organization of antimalware test standards, is an NGO established in 2008 to improve the quality of anti-malware test methods. On February 19, 2025, experts published VPN performance test guidelines to help improve fair security and safety for VPN evaluations.
Regular security and privacy audits made by independent experts have become a common practice among the best VPN suppliers. Third -party audits are users that their VPN service does what it claims to be.
New VPN test guidelines
The recent publication, developed by the AMTSO VPN Working Group, which includes VPN suppliers and testers, is only the first of a series of standard VPN guidelines.
“This first launch is an important milestone in our mission of providing proof orientation in the world of privacy and security,” said John Hawes, director of Operations at AMTSO. “When establishing clear reference points, we enable fair comparisons and help users to make informed decisions when selecting a VPN provider.”
AMTSO VPN test guidelines include key aspects that testers should verify when evaluating software performance.
These include starting tests and automatic launch connection to ensure that VPNs are automatically activated to obtain maximum protection, kill switch tests to verify that data leaks are not produced when the VPN connection falls, verify if the VPN blocks Indeed the DNS, IP and Webrtc leaks, and divided tunnel test.
