- The new data suggest that most iPhone and Galaxy users find that AI adds little to their experience
- More than 2,000 smartphone users were surveyed by the second -hand telephone market Selllcell
- The data suggest that users are simply not interested in the functions of AI
It is likely that if you have a smartphone, it has been updated to include some form of artificial intelligence in the last 12 months, that is if it was not sent with some type of outside the box.
However, with all the buzz around Apple Intelligence, Galaxy AI and Google Gemini that reach the best phones, it is important to take a moment to ask ourselves if any of us are really using AI; Fortunately, a new survey has been prepared that exact question.
A survey of more than 2,000 smartphone users in the second -hand smartphone market Sellcell discovered that 73% of iPhone users and a frying of 87% of Samsung Galaxy users felt that AI adds little or no value to the experience of their smartphone.
Sellcell only surveyed users with a phone enabled for AI: that is an iphone 15 pro or newer or a new or newer galaxy. The survey does not offer an exact sample size, but more than 1,000 iPhone users and more than 1,000 Galaxy users were involved.
Other results show that most users of any of the platforms would not pay an AI subscription: 86.5% of iPhone users and 94.5% of Galaxy users would refuse to pay continuous access to AI functions.
That is especially pertinent for Galaxy users, since all Galaxy S25 phones come with six months of advanced Gemini for free; It does not seem that many choose to renew that subscription. Apple has not announced any plan to monetize Apple’s intelligence.
The survey also found that AI plays a small role in mandatory users to change platform: 16.8% of iPhone surveyed users would change Galaxy to obtain better AI functions, while only 9.7% of Galaxy users would make the reverse change.
However, almost half of iPhone users consider that AI is an important factor in the purchase of a new phone, with 47.6% saying that they consider the AI when the time comes to make a purchase compared to 23.7% of Samsung users.
Iphone users are also generally more proud of Apple Intelligence than their classmates who handle Samsung, with 15.4% who say Apple Intelligence is better than Galaxy AI. On the contrary, only 7.8% of Galaxy users took a step forward to say that Galaxy AI is better than Apple Intelligence.
My analysis: people simply do not care?
From the data listed so far, it seems that people are simply not using AI. In the case of iPhone and Galaxy users, approximately two fifths of respondents have tried the functions of AI: 41.6% for iPhone and 46.9% for Galaxy.
So, that is the majority of users who do not even care with AI in the first place and a general disinterest in the characteristics of the user base in general, despite the fact that Apple and Samsung do a big problem with AI.
But why is that? The survey suggests that the majority of iPhone users have simply not updated to iOS 18.1 to access Apple Intelligence, while Galaxy users are simply not interested in the available functions. A little less than a fifth of iPhone users and less than two fifths of Galaxy users also felt that AI was too inaccurate to use.
I have some theories about what this apathy could be promoting. The former focus on ethical concerns about AI. It is no secret that AI is an environmental catastrophe in motion, consumes large amounts of water and emit huge levels of CO2, so the greatest people can choose to lose it.
There is also the issue of AI and human creativity: the Techradar Editorial associate, Rowan Davies, recently wrote about an nascent “cultural genocide” as a result of generative AI, which I think is a convincing reason to avoid it.
It could also be that everyday consumers have tuned due to the deployment of prolonged and messy software of Apple Intelligence and an UI 7, even as a full -time technological journalist, I have found that both are difficult to follow sometimes.
However, ultimately, I believe that AI is not interesting for the daily person. Even as someone who is doing a career to be excited about phones, I have not yet seen a function of the announced that does not seem like a task of using or a dominant generative tool. I do not use any day -to -day characteristic, and as such, I don’t expect much more emotion from the general public.
In any case, I will look for Apple and Samsung to arouse that interest with high quality, useful and ethical addions in the future. If you are ready to jump, be sure to consult our list of the best AI phones and make us know what makes the mobile in the comments below.
