- The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, believes that around a third of the company’s code is now written by AI
- Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, believes that half of its code will come from AI in a year
- Productivity benefits have a cost of possible vulnerabilities and job losses
The Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, has revealed that almost a third of the company’s code is now written by AI.
Speaking to his partner Tech Titan, the CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg, at the first “Innovation of the” Conference of the company, LlamaCon, Nadella added that the figure is in upward trend, possibly reaching 40%, pointing out that AI is more effective for writing a new code instead of modifying the old code.
The news occurs only months after the CEO of Alphabet, SUCTAL PICHAI, revealed similar figures, claiming that more than the quarter of the Google code is now generated by AI.
Microsoft is using more and more code generated by AI
“I would say that perhaps 20-30% of the code that is within our pastry today and some of our projects are probably written by software,” Nadella confirmed.
Despite asking the question, when that same question was asked to Zuckerberg, he said he did not “have that number outside the top of [his] head.”
However, the goal leader offered a perspective for the use of AI by the company: “Our bet is something like next year … Maybe half of the development will be done by AI instead of people, and that will increase from there.”
Neither Nadella nor Zuckerberg discussed the possible loss of jobs due to AI coding, but there was a brief discussion about evolving roles.
“I tend to think that … all engineers, if they will effectively end up being more a similar technological leader in the future that has its own army of AI agents with those who work,” said the Meta CEO.
Responding to the discussion about the Proton Mail X account, the Swiss office software company focused on Privacy Proton said: “This is not the flexion that he thinks is, Microsoft.”
It is not clear if that was an excavation of possible vulnerabilities that could be introduced through the code written by AI, the effects it can have on the workforce or something else.
