- According to reports, Apple will increase to RAM from 8 GB to 12 GB for iPhone 17 alignment
- Previously it was reported that only the PRO and Pro Max would obtain the update
- More Ram would level competition with people like Samsung and Google
Just when Apple likes to update its own harvest chips every year for the iPhone, RAM has also constantly increased. And judging by a new report, it seems that the technological giant based in Cupertino will continue on that path, and will possibly copy what Samsung and Google are already offering.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 series will kick the computer power in a higher march thanks to 12 GB of RAM. That would be a solid increase over the 8 GB of RAM found on iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
Why the increase? Well, it is likely that not only keep up with the changes that are coming with iOS 19, this update is expected to be presented in a few weeks on WWDC 2025, but also to feed the aspects on the Apple Intelligence device.
That is not an easy feat, and with the Siri infused with the horizon with a launch at some time next year, the iPhone probably needs a greater amount of RAM to deal with the execution of models directly on the device. Apple Intelligence currently processes some on the device, be it an iPhone, iPad or Mac, in addition to safely sending it to the private cloud computing method.
Beyond the implications of AI and the need for more RAM, this should provide even more support to future chips from the series A that Apple is developing. And it should make future iPhones work with even more speed and fluidity.
This change in the amount of RAM also represents Apple playing with people like Samsung and Google. The Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra All have 12 GB of RAM standard and are already capable of more advanced artificial intelligence characteristics. The standard Google Pixel 9 comes with 12 GB of RAM outside the box, while Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL count 16 GB of RAM.
The Ming-Chi Kuo report details that of the expected models of iPhone 17, the PRO, Pro Max and the Ultra Delgado air, will have 12 GB of RAM now. Previously, the reports indicated that only the Pro Max, probably the most powerful in the group, would obtain the update. The report also mentions that hope is to give the iPhone 17 of entry level 12 GB of RAM too, but the shortage of supplies is a concern.
Anyway, it is clear that Apple is taking note of the competition of companies such as Samsung and Google, and it is likely that you take it into account in its route map of Apple’s intelligence characteristics. As the list of characteristics, both those that are already released and future, continue to grow, the iPhone must be able to admit them to all.
In addition, taking into account Apple’s approach in privacy throughout its device and set of features, the objective is probably doing a lot in the device, so an investment in more RAM makes a lot of sense.
And even if you do not use AI functions on the iPhone, it is likely to be good news if you opt for the last model.
