- A well -known filter has said that the folding of 18.8 inches of Apple is still incoming possibly already in 2027
- However, Amazon also has a large folding ‘similar’ in the pipeline
- With Huawei recently transmitting a folding portable computer, Apple may feel that you are staying behind the rivals, and we still do not know the exact nature of your device
Apple’s rumored folding device, which could be a MacBook that is the entire screen and there is no physical keyboard, or a huge iPad tablet, has appeared in the vine with an affirmation that it could be here in 2027. However, Amazon could beat Apple to the shelves here, they tell us.
As Wccftech noticed, the famous Apple-Chi Kuo leaks posted in X to inform us that the 18.8-inch folding of Apple is still ready to enter mass production at the end of 2027 or 2028 (a deadline that has mentioned previously, and I will return to that point later).
Apple competitors in the large folding devices market may not be limited to Huawei. My research indicates that Amazon is also developing internally a similar product, which has not yet begun officially. If development progresses as planned, it is projected to enter …May 20, 2025
This comment occurred after Huawei revealed his Matbook Fold laptop in Computex 2025 earlier this week, which is an 18 -inch device, very similar in size to Apple’s theoretical product here. (I must take into account that both this and the folding of Apple Rumorado are 18 to 19 inches when they are completely deployed, so that is the total size of the device).
Kuo also observed that Amazon is developing a “similar product” that has not yet been official, but could be due to production lines at the end of 2026, or perhaps 2027 (add a lot of seasoning with all this).
Analysis: Is rivals delayed?
The track that is being dropped here, then, is that Apple is staying behind the pacemakers in the sand of giant folding devices, with the Amazon schedule apparently with one year before Apple. Although this said, for something that is not even officially underway, the Amazon device that opens at the end of next year seems a fairly fast path through development.
The key question, of course, is that Apple will produce a macbook or folding iPad of 18.8 inches? (By the way, if a folding laptop looks like a strange term, and it is, since all notebooks fold, it refers to a folding screen, instead of a chassis. This is a notebook that does not have a keyboard and, on the other hand, uses a virtual keyboard that is shown in the middle of the screen).
This is where things get a bit strange, since rumors have suggested that Apple’s folding device could be a laptop or a tablet. Kuo compared it to Amazon’s folding, which is surely a fire table, seems to suggest that it is a huge iPad. But then a direct comparison is also made with Huawei’s folding portable computer. In addition, the filter uses significantly the neutral ‘device’ term instead of any indication of mentioning a laptop or tablet.
What suggests to me is that Apple is working through concepts on both sides of the fence, the tablet and the laptop, and has not yet made the decision with which IR operating system, macOS or iPados, and what will be more useful: a MacBook with a folding screen (and virtual keyboard), or an iPad that can fold to be a giant screen.
Personally, I believe that Macbook’s idea is the Frontrunner (and the rumors about Apple who work in a notebook with a virtual keyboard have existed for years). Although it is more innovative and that attracts attention, that is the most risky movement, it is true, in terms of making Mac fans accept the ditch of a physical keyboard in favor of an effort based on the screen. It would have to be a very good virtual keyboard, that’s safe. A great iPad would be a safer way to step on when you look at these ideas from that light.
What is also interesting is that Kuo has not changed the launch period for this 18.8 -inch folding since he talked about him in mid -2024, which could be read as Apple on the way with his development schedule here. Or Kuo has simply listened to anything else, especially with respect to that decision on whether to make a laptop or tablet.
In general, that is a bit worrying, but if this great folding device really comes from Apple, we should receive some firmer suggestions soon. And it is certainly true that the plans of the manufacturers of laptop (or tablet) rivals will help stimulate Apple’s thinking processes and the realization of this product, or I imagine, anyway.
