ACNUR asks for dialogue to Afghan refugees

Islamabad:

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday requested a humanitarian approach for the issuance of Afghan refugees and emphasized the renewal of the dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan to guarantee the safe, voluntary and worthy return of people.

According to spokesman Qaiser Khan Afridi, UNHCR requested a constructive commitment between Pakistan and Afghanistan to facilitate voluntary, informed and worthy returns, which guarantees the sustainability of reintegration efforts in Afghanistan, where the human rights situation remained serious.

The organization recognized and praised the tradition of Pakistan’s decades to organize Afghan refugees, many of whom had fled conflicts, persecution and instability since the end of the 1970s.

“The Government and the people of Pakistan have a commendable history and decades of hosts of the Afghans who fled the conflict and violence in the past,” said Afridi.
