Adguard became the last VPN provider to add encryption resistant to quantum amount to its software.
Specifically, Adguard VPN now integrates a combination of classic encryption methods with one of the algorithm standards after those published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in August last year. The function was implemented in Macos and Windows on March 6, 2025, and mobile applications are expected to obtain the update later in the month.
The firm now follows the steps of Google Chrome and some of the best VPN suppliers in the market updating its encryption protections to ensure that the user data is protected against the new threats raised by quantum computing.

“We are on the edge of the era of quantum technology, and data protection must be maintained at the forefront of threats, not only react to them. By implementing cryptography after the quanto, we are sitting the foundations for a safe internet in the future,” said Denis Vyazovoy, CPO VPN Aduguard.
Experts predict that it is only a matter of time before quantum computers break the current RSA -based encryption methods. This is mainly because these machines will have the ability to process calculations that today’s computers cannot handle, in a matter of minutes.
Recent releases such as the Google Quantum chip and Microsoft’s Majorana 1 chip, explains Adguard, “are pushing quantum computing closer to solving complex problems of the real world.” This can be a bearing of what the industry has feared for a long time: that current encryption will soon become obsolete.
Quantum computers are still a few years after becoming the main current, but it is believed that cybercriminals have already adopted “Harvest now, deciphered attacks later.” These involve malicious actors who collect encrypted data and decipher it once the quantum machines are available for the task.
It is exactly with this in mind that NIST experts launched the first sets of quantum security algorithms last year designed for specific tasks, namely, protection for key exchanges (ML-KEM) and Identity authentication (ML-DSA and SLH-DSA).
As mentioned above, Adguard VPN has implemented a hybrid encryption approach that includes the classic Elliptical Curve algorithm X25519 with the ML-Kem768 after Kyber768.
The supplier explains that this double -layer encryption approach guarantees robust protection against current and future risks, which allows safe session keys that are resistant to quantum computing advances. “

In a nutshell, having a hybrid encryption method ensures that proven and tested algorithms always protect their data, even if the protection after quantum fails.
If you are using the latest version of Adguard VPN on the desktop, you should already be able to enable this function through the configuration menu. This advanced security option is also expected to land in iOS and Android VPN applications in the next two weeks.
