Afghan trucks allowed in India through Wagah

LAHORE:

Despite the current tensions between Pakistan and India, five Afghan traffic trade trucks, loaded with Afghan dried fruits and led by Pakistani conductors, crossed to India through the border with Wagah-Attari, the fountains said Friday.

The trucks, the sources said, had been parked on the border under the supervision of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) for several weeks, waiting for the authorization to continue. They crossed the border after the Indian government issued a 24 -hour entry permit.

Pakistan allowed the trucks to proceed to the request of the Afghan government, they said. The Afghan government had asked Pakistan to allow the passage to 150 trucks, transporting dry fruits, to India through the Wagah border after India closed the border last month in the midst of growing tensions.

On May 1, Pakistan granted the conditional approval for these trucks to transit India. However, the process was delayed due to the issuance of entry permits by the Indian authorities. There were more delays due to border skirmishes and high tensions between the two countries.
