Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Monday directed authorities to complete the verification process for disbursement of relief funds to affected families in Tirah within a week, stressing that payments should be ensured at the earliest.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review matters related to payment of compensation and relief funds to those affected in Tirah, Kurram and Bajaur.
The meeting was informed in detail about the ongoing relief measures in the affected areas, the utilization of funds and the payment mechanism.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the verification process of those affected by Tirah must be completed within seven days in all circumstances to avoid further delays in payments. It ordered that a complete and transparent digital record of all payments be maintained to ensure proper accountability for every penny spent.
Afridi made it clear that negligence, inefficiency or mismanagement in the utilization of funds allocated to assist those affected would not be tolerated. He reiterated the provincial government’s firm determination to utilize all available resources for the rehabilitation and support of people affected by natural disasters and security operations.
The Prime Minister further directed the relevant departments to formally write to the federal government seeking release of outstanding dues owed to the affected parties so that the pending payments could be made without delay. He also ordered the establishment of a special fund aimed at ensuring long-term rehabilitation and assistance of people affected by natural calamities and security-related operations.
During the briefing, the meeting was informed that of the total Rs 4 billion allocated for assistance to those affected, Rs 900 million had already been spent. It was also revealed that registration of 17,000 affected households in the Tirah Valley had been completed.
The meeting was told that relief payments would be guaranteed for 1,000 Tirah households daily. For effective tracking and transparency, a digital dashboard is being developed to track the disbursement process. The officials also informed the meeting that the affected people residing in Bakkakhel camp were receiving relief funds on a monthly basis.
