LAHORE:
President Asif Zardari is expected to leave for Islamabad on Monday (today) after his flight scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to smog, according to party sources.
He had arrived in Lahore to congratulate a party leader on his son’s upcoming wedding later this month. While there, he met with party leaders, but none of the meetings dealt with specific party issues.
Currently, considerable wrangling is taking place within the Central Punjab chapter, which is still awaiting leadership approval for the party’s reorganisation.
President Bilawal Bhutto, who stayed in Punjab for about five days, was also expected to approve this reorganization; However, there has been complete silence on the matter.
A key disagreement arose regarding the proposed office structure in Lahore, where Central Punjab leaders and the Central Information Secretary wanted their own candidates to be given portfolios of their choice.
However, according to party sources, the proposed Lahore president Faisal Mir has flatly refused to accept their recommendations. One particular position that has caused friction between Mir and the Party’s Information Secretary is the Lahore Information Secretary. Nadeem Afzal Chan wants Sania Kamran to be nominated, while Mir insists on having his own candidate.
