- A new memory update is released today for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users
- ChatGPT can now remember what you asked it a year ago
- Click Sources to find the exact conversations you had
ChatGPT can now remember what you asked it a year ago and show you the exact conversation. This new memory upgrade for Plus and Pro users turns old chats into something searchable, permanent, and surprisingly useful.
Now his memory is so good that you can ask him about that chili sauce recipe you requested a year ago, and there’s a good chance he’ll find it, along with a link to the exact conversation.
ChatGPT never forgets
Before the most recent memory update, if you asked ChatGPT what it was talking about a year ago, it usually responded with some version of “I don’t actually have a window into your entire chat history from a year ago,” followed by a handful of fairly ineffective suggestions involving browsing your browser history.
Now, instead, it displays a “reminder” message and then answers exactly what you asked it a year ago.
As a Plus user, I tried it and it’s actually quite impressive. I wrote:
“What was I asking you a year ago?”
What I got was a detailed breakdown of everything I had been asking him at the time. Apparently I was going through a phase where I was asking ChatGPT to analyze Nicolas Winding Refn’s films. If you’ve ever seen any of them, you’ll probably understand why I needed a little help.
We have been improving memory. ChatGPT is now more reliable for finding and remembering details from your previous chats, such as recipes or workouts. Try it and tell us what you think pic.twitter.com/6d2SavPPsiJanuary 15, 2026
Check your sources
Thanks to ChatGPT’s Feeds feature, you can now go straight back to those exact chats from a year ago. Click Sources at the bottom of the response and a panel opens showing direct links to the original conversations.
This is really impressive. Suddenly, chats no longer seem disposable. I long ago gave up trying to figure out the inner workings of Refn’s mind, but it was fascinating to revisit those conversations.
If you are a Plus or Pro user, you can try it yourself right now. No need to update ChatGPT; Just ask him what you were asking a year ago and you’ll be surprised at what you’ll get. The feature has been rolled out globally to all ChatGPT Plus and Pro users today.
And of course you can also follow TechRadar on TikTok for news, reviews, unboxings in video form and receive regular updates from us on WhatsApp also.
