Ahsan Iqbal urges AI to push through key sectors in Pakistan


The Federal Minister of Planning and Development, Ahsan IQBAL, requested on Thursday the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the National Development Strategy of Pakistan, announcing a new National Fund of AI and specific action plans of the sector.

By chairing a meeting of the National Task Force on AI, Ahsan IQbal said that the adoption of AI should be guided by intersectoral collaboration and alignment with the strategic priorities of the country.

“The adoption of AI cannot advance in isolation and must be guided by intersectoral collaboration, align with national priorities and effective coordination in all relevant institutions,” according to a statement from the Press Information Department (PID).

“It’s time for Pakistan to advance with clarity and purpose.”

The working group, formed in April 2023, is working to finish a 10 -year roadmap to accelerate the use of AI in multiple fields.

Twelve key sectors have been identified, including education, health, agriculture, weather, business and governance, where AI can offer measurable national profits. Each sector will form a working group of multiple stakeholders with representatives of the government, the academy and the industry to write the custom of the personalized the AI ​​with clear objectives and deadlines.

The initiative also includes the establishment of a National Fund of AI destined to support innovative ideas and pilot projects. Ahsan Iqbal asked for a national mapping of experience in AI and research infrastructure to guide resources allocation and policy design.

In addition, the working group has received instructions to organize a National IA workshop in collaboration with the Pakistan Ti Industry Association (P@Sha) and other relevant organizations. The workshop will serve as a platform to develop practical solutions of the aligned with the development needs of Pakistan.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that Pakistan does not stay behind in the global career for technological leadership.
