- Leaders know that departmental silos impede effective AI implementation
- Shadow AI is on the rise: a clear indication that there is demand for AI
- Existing infrastructure not ready for AI, leaders admit
New research from Nutanix has revealed that the vast majority (85%) of organizations are now increasing their adoption of containers to support AI workloads due to portability, scalability and reliability, but even when everything is packaged for maximum efficiency, they are still struggling with the fundamentals.
Four in five (82%) companies are concerned that silos between business units and IT hinder their ability to execute technologies like AI, and as a result, many are struggling with the use of shadow AI.
This is despite 87% recognizing that unauthorized use of AI can create business risks.
Workers are clearly interested in AI
The rise of shadow AI is a clear indicator that companies are not keeping up with the demands of workers: Shadow AI is particularly common among departments that operate independently of IT oversight.
Workers see AI agents helping with customer experience (61%), productivity and efficiency (58%), and creating new products and services (57%), but these benefits cannot be accessed securely without the right infrastructure. A core gap identified in the Nutanix report.
In terms of infrastructure, 82% of leaders admitted that their existing configurations are not suitable for on-premises AI workloads. A similar number (80%) also noted the larger role that data sovereignty plays in their infrastructure decisions, which could be adding complexity and slowing down their modernization efforts.
Looking ahead, the report details how containers have become “core components” of enterprise application strategy, with 85% of organizations surveyed willing to drive container adoption in the name of speed, reliability and scalability.
“The findings indicate that organizations need enterprise-grade security, resiliency, and portability because AI workloads can run anywhere,” wrote Lee Caswell, senior vice president of product and solutions marketing.
