- Many developers report saving time when they use AI to improve the code
- Information search must still be addressed in AI tools
- Developers and leaders must collaborate in solutions
The new research of Atlassian suggests that the generative AI is helping to boost productivity among developers, saving two (68%) an average of more than 10 hours per week and helps improve the quality of the code and build new features.
This is above less than half (46%) last year, with Atlassian indicating that the time that is saved through AI is now reinviring to improve the code and develop new features, which results in a net gain for companies.
However, not all are roses, because each force meets an equal and opposite force: many developers report that AI is really costing time.
IA in general is beneficial for developers
According to the study, one in two developers informs losing more than 10 hours per week due to inefficiencies, such as seeking information, which suggests that artificial intelligence is not really helping to improve productivity in some areas or for some roles. Up to 90% report losing 6 hours per week due to fragmented workflows and bad collaboration.
The difficulties in finding information, the clear lack of leadership of leaders and bad collaboration with other teams stood out as three of the greatest taxpayers to poor productivity.
“This combination of innovation and pressure cooked under pressure demands a closer look at how AI is remodeling the developer’s experience and what it means to the future of software development throughout the industry,” said the CTO Atlassian Rajeev Rajan.
The report also discovered a clear disconnection between the tools with AI and the tools that workers really need. Although most of the solutions satisfy coding, this only represents approximately 16% of the work week of a developer, with up to 84% of the time of tedious tasks.
Looking towards the future, Atlassian asks for a narrower collaboration and communication between developers and leadership to identify friction points.
