- AI is going down the barrier to enter the cyber crime
- Deep defects and false websites take minutes to prop up
- Users must be careful
The sophisticated fraud campaigns used to take the weeks of cybercriminals to establish now can appear in minutes, Microsoft warns. The difference? Generative artificial intelligence (Genai).
The tools that emerged a few years ago, including chatgpt, co -pilot, Midjourney and many others have not only reduced the time to prepare a sophisticated scam on the Internet, but have also lowered the entrance barrier that allows even rookie scams to prepare and execute advanced campaigns.
In the latest Cyber Signals report on scams assisted by AI, Microsoft said cybercriminals are using Genai for more than “only” Phishing email copy. They create deep failures (generally false videos of celebrities that support a project) and create “simulated websites” generated by AI that mimic legitimate businesses.
Phishing and Fraud
“What used to take days or weeks of scammers to create now will take minutes,” Microsoft warned.
But at the end of the day, this is still “only” phishing and fraud: people can mitigate the risk taking it calmly on the Internet. Microsoft says that the best thing you can do is not to be deceived with “limited time” agreements and countdown timers, just click Verified ads (many scam sites extend through optimized social networks), and to be skeptics of social tests (the scammers can use reviews generated by AI, backups of influencers and testimonies to exploit the people of exploit people Trust in social networks).
Finally, users should never provide personal or financial information to people who communicate through SMS or email messages not requested. “You should never provide a Social Security number, bank details or passwords to an unseeled employer,” he said.
Paying for a job opportunity is almost always a red flag. The best advice is usually the simplest: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Artificial intelligence will make Internet fraud even more dangerous, but with a little common sense and a little care, it does not succeed.
