Apple has just presented two new Airpods features as part of its WWDC 2025 key note, where new software updates for iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac and everything else were revealed.
Everything else includes the best Apple Airpods, because Airpods Pro 2, Airpods 4 and AirPods 4 with Anc will obtain two new features as part of the new updates.
The first feature is the “studio quality audio recording”, while the second is the “camera remote”, both are small updates compared to the huge mode of Airpods headphones revealed last year, but both seem to be regularly useful.
They are only the three models that will obtain these updates, because they are the only models with the H2 chip that drive them. Yes, even the recently renewed Airpods Max with USB-C will not get them, because they still use the old H1 chip.
This is what Apple has revealed about updates so far.
Study quality audio recording
The first feature promises a richer audio quality when using its Airpods microphones to record or during calls. Apple says that “interviewers, podcasters, singers and other creators can record their content with a higher sound quality and even record while they are moving or in noisy environments with voice insulation.”
Now, I don’t think you need to be a content creator to benefit from this. Apple says that “users will also enjoy a more natural vocal texture and clarity in iPhone, Facetime and applications enabled for Callkit”, so it is expected that their WhatsApp calls and everything else will get a clear impulse. Apple says it will also work on voice memoranda, video recording applications and dictation tools.
We tried the quality of the microphone and the voice of all the best headphones we recommend, so I hope to see how this improves things, because Apple has already increased those of Airpods Pro 2 voice.
Camera control
Apple says that “capturing distance content is easier than ever with the remote camera.” Now you can keep the Airpods rod to take a photo or start a video recording, and then you can repeat the action to finish the recording.
Apple highlights to listen to a soundtrack while dances as a main benefit of this tool, but for those of us who do not live our lives a Tiktok trend at the same time, it seems really useful if it also works when its airpods are not in their ears, so it can activate the camera for a family photo.
There are some information bits that we do not know here: first it is if they work when they are not in their ears, as I mentioned earlier, and the second is if you need to choose if the gesture triggers photos either Video, or if there is a way to do it (maybe the left can make video and the right can take photos).
I have to say that this could have been an update for AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 1st Gen too. I really don’t think I need the H2 chip, but Apple has only announced it for AirPods 4 and Airpods Pro 2 models.
