AJK PM states institutional reforms in two years

MUZAFFARABAD:

Azad Jammu and Kashmira (AJK), Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, said the coalition government has implemented several institutional reforms during its two years in office.

When heading to a function in Thorad Rawalakot, AJK’s prime minister said that shortly after assuming office, he took strong measures against the fiscal mafia involved in tax evasion and fraud, which had been diverting 600 billion rupees of the national ink.

He stressed that corruption and flour looting incidents have been addressed to a large extent, adding that strict actions have been taken against tax, wood and cigarette mafias.

Regarding institutional reforms, the AJK PM highlighted the importance of the Public Service Commission and NTS to restore merit in recruitment. He said that almost 3,000 boys and girls have been recruited by merit through NTS.

When addressing the issue of unpaid public services invoices and the financial consequences of electricity theft, the prime minister commented: “We can only fix the system improving our character.”

He regretted that while electricity was provided to consumers with 71 rupees per unit, 70 percent was theft. “Now, the cost of electricity is 3 rupees per unit and the robbery has increased from 70-71 percent, he added.
