Alarming population growth rate: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday described the growth rate of the annual Pakistan population of 2.55 percent, an alarming trend that requires an immediate and coordinated policy action at the national level to address the problem.

The prime minister presided over a high -level meeting at the Prime Minister’s office to review the challenges raised by the growing population of Pakistan and to deliberate on effective strategies to administer it, said a press release from the Prime Minister’s office.

“We need comprehensive planning to ensure that our growing population, especially young people, becomes a productive part of the economy,” he emphasized. “A great segment of our population includes young people, who are the most valuable asset for our country.”

He stressed that the government was taking several initiatives to empower young people and integrate them into the country’s economic current. “Opportunities are being created to allow our young people to play a central role in national development,” he added.

Speaking about gender inclusion, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the critical importance of women’s participation in the workforce. “Women constitute a significant portion of our human capital. We must guarantee greater employment opportunities for them,” he directed.

The prime minister instructed the formation of a committee to develop a integral and effective national policy, in close collaboration with the provincial governments. “A unified and strategic response is the need for the time,” he said, asking for a federal coordinated framework to address the problems related to the population.

He also emphasized the importance of launching an awareness campaign throughout the country to educate citizens about the implications of population growth without control, especially in the context of sustainable economic development.

During the meeting, the prime minister was informed about several proposals and recommendations to manage population growth. The officials emphasized that any long -term solution would require an active provincial collaboration and public participation at the base level.

The meeting was participated by the Federal Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Ahsan IQBAL, Federal Minister of Education, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister of Information and Transmission of Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister of Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, Federal Minister of Law Azam Nazer Tarar, together with high officials of relevant institutions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a pain for the disappearance of the former president of the Superior Court of Lahore Mian Allah Nawaz.

The prime minister, in a statement, said that the late judge Mian Allah Nawaz provided valuable services to the Judiciary.

“In this hour of pain, all our sympathies are with the family of the deceased,” said the prime minister and prayed for peace for the soul and force so that the family family would endure the loss.
