RAWALPINDI:
Aleema Khan, sister of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, on Tuesday rejected any notion of ongoing side talks, saying no negotiations were taking place and challenging anyone who claims otherwise to engage directly with her brother.
The statement came as the jailed leader’s sisters were again denied access to meet him at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, prompting the party to denounce the continued restrictions as a “flagrant violation of fundamental human and constitutional rights”.
Speaking to the media at the Gorakhpur check post near Adiala Jail, Aleema said the former prime minister remained defiant despite his prolonged incarceration.
“There are no negotiations or talks taking place. If anyone has the courage, he should go and talk to the PTI founder directly and hold negotiations,” he said.
Aleema claimed that Imran was “extremely angry” and had been held in solitary confinement for almost three years.
He questioned the logic of holding him up for such a long period and then suggesting a deal. He further alleged that there were deliberate attempts to damage his eyesight to pressure him into seeking a deal.
“Eid has already passed, but we were not allowed to meet him. Today is the first Tuesday after Eid, so we should be allowed a meeting. We have come for a meeting and we will sit here until we are allowed. This is our constitutional and legal right, and denying it is a violation of human rights,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the lack of transparency regarding Imran’s medical treatment, stating that not even the family had been informed about his recent procedure.
Responding to a question about his transfer between jail and hospital, he said: “We don’t know anything; not even the family was informed. We found out through social media, newspapers and television. We have no idea what treatment is being given.”
Aleema added that the two doctors suggested by the family had not been allowed access or adequate information.
Meanwhile, his sister Noreen Niazi harshly criticized the situation, saying: “There is no law in the country.”
He rejected any suggestion of a deal, adding: “Those who had assets abroad and committed theft made deals. The founder of the PTI has committed no crime and is unjustly imprisoned. We will not let this pass. From the prison authorities to the members of the government involved, everyone will be held accountable.”
Meanwhile, the party’s Islamabad chapter proposed a structured roadmap to secure Imran’s release, stating that a comprehensive and coordinated strategy was essential.
