Alex Ovechkin de Capitals moves within 3 goals to break the Wayne Gretzky record

The Washington Capital star, Alex Ovechkin, moved to three goals to break the score brand of all Wayne Gretzky while scoring his 892 goal against Carolina’s hurricanes on Wednesday night.

It was the only goal of the capitals in their 5-1 defeat against the hurricanes. He almost scored two in the game, but was arrested at close range by goalkeeper Frederik Andersen in the second period. He ended up beating Andersen in a power play 5 against 3 later in the second.

“We have a good opportunity in the second, the first escape change,” said Ovechkin. “And in this game, if you have a chance, you have to use it and I think all the goalkeepers play well tonight.”

Ovechkin recognized the playoffs atmosphere in Raleight, North Carolina. In the third period, eight players received misconduct from the game after multiple fights broke out.

“We understand that there is the possibility of seeing them in the playoffs,” said Ovechkin. “It was an environment of playoffs out there.”

Washington and Carolina are the two best teams in the Metropolitan Division at the Eastern Conference. The capitals have 105 points and hurricanes have 96.

“The Gr8 Chase” is still on, at least for seven more games. Ovechkin could close the record at the end of the weekend with a game against the Blackhawks of Chicago on Friday night and then a road game against the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Gretzky’s record of 894 goals in his career was once thought that he was unbeatable, but Ovechkin challenges probabilities.

“(The registration) feels as if it were there,” said the defense of the defense of the capitals, Trevor Van Riemsdyk. “He feels that he is still scoring every night. It has been huge for us and incredible for him to see that he is still doing it at this torrid rhythm.”
