Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, didn’t miss a moment to check out Stephen A. Smith during his appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” Thursday morning.
Williams appeared at Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show in February, and sparked a debate on the sports talk show about why she was there. While Smith’s co-hosts pointed out the connection between Williams and Lamar given their roots in Compton, Shannon Sharpe focused on Lamar’s lead toward artist Drake, who had a previous relationship with Williams.
That angle is what prompted Smith to attack Ohanian, in whose shoes he decided to intervene for the segment.

“If I’m married and my wife is going to join in trolling her ex, get back on her ass. Because you clearly don’t belong to me,” Smith said at the time. “Why do you care about him and be with me? Bye. Bye.”
Well, before “First Take” went on hiatus on Thursday, Ohanian took advantage of the moment when they were talking about her marriage to Williams to fact-check Smith’s comments in a nuanced way.

“Also, Stephen A. Smith, I think you have some marriage advice for me. Is that correct?” Ohanian questioned.
“Oh, I’m not qualified. Council martial? Oh, no, not me,” Smith responded.

Ohanian didn’t stop there.
“You haven’t been married before, have you?” he added. “Because I give advice to a lot of founders who want to build billion-dollar companies. And the reason I do that is because I build billion-dollar companies. So I generally try to stay in my lane in the advice department.”
Ohanian is primarily known as the co-founder of the social media site Reddit, as well as being the founder of the all-women’s professional running series Athlos.

Williams and Ohanian married on November 16, 2017, two months after the birth of their daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian. In August 2023, Williams gave birth to her second daughter, Adira River Ohanian.
