Ali Amin Gandapur and Omar Ayub declared proclaimed offenders in ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ cases

Senior civil judge cites repeated failures to appear, orders arrest in two Bara Kahu FIRs

ISLAMABAD:

A local court on Monday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Ali Amin Gandapur and Omar Ayub proclaimed offenders in two cases related to the ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ and issued perpetual arrest warrants against them.

Senior civil judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti issued the orders while hearing the cases registered at Bara Kahu police station. The court observed that despite repeated summons, both the accused had not appeared in court.

In the previous hearing, the court had directed authorities to initiate proceedings against Gandapur for his continued absence. Following the failure, the court formally declared that both Gandapur and Ayub had absconded and ordered their arrest.

The court was informed that PTI founder Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Zartaj Gul and other co-accused had already been acquitted in both the cases.

The cases pertain to alleged rapes during the Haqeeqi Azadi March, a protest march organized by the PTI in November 2022 following the overthrow of the Imran Khan-led government, in which the police registered two separate FIRs against Gandapur and others at the Bara Kahu police station.

Subsequent proceedings were postponed until the arrest of the accused.
