According to the reports, Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, is out of his induced coma about 24 hours after participating in a serious car accident.
Arenas, 18, remained intubated, but the development in his recovery has been “remarkable and hopeful,” said a representative of the Arenas family, according to TMZ Sports.
Arenas was traveling in his Tesla Cybertruck shortly before 5 in the morning on Thursday in Los Angeles when the accident occurred, according to the reports.

The family of Arenas shared a statement from one of the people who helped him out of the car after the accident.
“I remember hearing blows to the car window, but I could not see anything because the smoke was very thick,” said the person through TMZ Sports.

“That’s when I realized that someone was inside. I tried to break the window, but I didn’t give. Then I saw that one of the windows was broken enough, and we used everything we had to bend and take it out. The car was in flames. We knew we had to take it out.”
Arenas recently committed to the Male Basketball team of the USC Trojans.

Arenas was one of the best classified shooting guards in the 2026 class, and recently rejected as a last year student to allow him to graduate from high school in 2025 and go to college a year earlier.
His father, Gilbert Arenas, played in the NBA for 12 seasons. It was three times All-Star and spent eight seasons with the Washington Wizards, two with the Golden State Warriors and one season each with the Grizzlies of Magic and Memphis.
