- The Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy, urges workers to be “curious about AI”
- It has more than 1,000 AI services and applications in development or in use.
- Genai and Agentic ai could lead to job losses at Amazon
The Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy, has announced advances in AI, and the integration of technology in many of the company’s operations, will probably reduce company staff in the next five years due to efficiency gains.
In a letter to the workers, the CEO Andy Jassy boasted that more than 1,000 AI services and application area are already in progress or built, and many more are to come.
Jassy was called some of the successful implementations and the next deployment, including his next -generation intelligent personal assistant Alexa+, the AI purchase assistant, sellers tools and advertisers.
Amazon blames AI for future layoffs
Ultimately, artificial intelligence could end up changing the nature of work, requiring fewer people in some roles but more in others.
The electronic commerce giant has already fired approximately 27,000 workers since 2022, including recent cuts in devices, services and book divisions, but it seems that generalized technological dismissals could be far from finishing for Amazon.
AI has also proven to be instrumental in allowing Amazon to improve its inventory, prognosis, robot efficiency and customer service, but Jassy’s letter remained consistent with a key issue: a strong emphasis on internal productivity improvements through the use of generative and agent.
With the capacities that cover the completion of the task, the research, the writing of codes and the automation of the workflow, Jassy sees that the agents of AI are critical for a faster innovation and better experiences of the clients, however, the disadvantage of that is that the technology will allow the thinnest equipment to achieve more, reducing the need for so many workers.
Despite the threat that AI takes its roles, Jassy urged workers to be “curious” about technology, experiment and innovate with him, and promote their learning.
“We will need fewer people doing some of the work that is being done today, and more people who do other types of jobs,” Jassy explained. “It is difficult to know exactly where this is obtained over time, but in the coming years, we hope that this will reduce our total corporate workforce.”
Jassy’s comment on knowing where this is obtained in the future is relevant. Although many experts predict that AI could lead to the net employment creation, it could mean that some companies (such as Amazon) end up reducing their staff, while others see growth.
