U.S. Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn said Saturday she will limit her use of social media after saying she received “hate.”
Glenn criticized the Trump administration at a pre-Olympic press conference earlier in the week, saying it had been a “difficult time” for her and members of the LGBT community. It was one of the few political comments American athletes made in the run-up to the Winter Games.

He received criticism for the comments, but wrote on his Instagram Stories that the comments he received crossed the line.
“When I chose to use one of the amazing things about the United States of America (freedom of speech) to convey how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubling time for many Americans, I now receive a terrifying amount of hate and threats for simply using my voice WHEN ASKED how I feel,” he wrote in a post that has since expired.

“I anticipated this, but I am disappointed. I will limit my time on social media for my own well-being for now, but I will never stop using my voice for what I believe.”
Glenn made the post while sharing comments he made to reporters in Milan, Italy.
“It’s been a difficult time for the (LGBTQ) community at large in this administration,” he said via USA Today. “It’s not the first time that we’ve had to come together as a community and try to fight for our human rights. And now especially, it’s not only affecting the queer community, but a lot of other communities, and I think we can support each other in a way that we didn’t have before, and because of that, it has made us much stronger.”
Glenn added that the topic he was talking about was something he was not going to remain silent about.
