- Both the AMD Ryzen 9900x3D and 9950x3D will be launched on March 12, 2025
- The respective MSRPs for both CPUs are $ 599 and $ 699, similar to the previous generation
- The first presents a 120W TDP, while the second uses a 170W TDP in its place
Several months after being announced for the first time in CES 2025, AMD has now officially confirmed the price and launch date for its Ryzen 9900x3D and 9950x3D processors. They are announced as the “best processor in the world for games and content creation.”
Both Ryzen 9900x3d and 9950x3D processors will be available as of March 12, 2025. The first entails a MSRP of $ 599, with the last available ones for $ 699, the two most expensive (and high performance) chips being of the company.
On the technical side of things, it is confirmed that the Ryzen 9 9950x3D has 16 nuclei (32 wires) with a base watch speed of 4.3 GHz and an increase clock of up to 5.7 GHz. There are 144 MB of second generation 3D cache V stacked on board with a 170W TDP.
In contrast, the secondary processor, the AMD Ryzen 9 9900x3D, presents 12 nuclei (24 wires) with a base watch speed of 4.4 GHz and an increase clock of up to 5.5 GHz and 128 MB of cache V 3D group available. Unlike the flagship model, this processor presents the lowest 120W TDP of the Ryzen 9900X (and cheaper Ryzen 7 9800x3d), which debuted in August and November 2024.
As with all Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 processors, the 9900x3d and 9950x3D are based on the AM5 platform, which means that it will need a compatible motherboard. Similarly, these chips are built exclusively for DDR5 RAM and have pcie 5.0 compatibility outside the box. If you are thinking about updating from an older AM4 platform, then you will have to simply change the chips.
Regardless of the two new processors among which you choose, you will want to invest in one of the best CPU coolers in 2025 to keep those central temperatures low, whether you are playing, lending projects or more. This is particularly true for the Ryzen 9950x3D with its 170W TDP, which coincides with that of the Variants No. 3D, something we had not seen until this moment.
With greater thermal design power, heat increases along with performance. We recommend an AIO dedicated with a large radiator connected (such as 240 mm or 360 mm) with a PC box with enough air flow and fans inside the computer box.
CPU options leaders, provided you have cash to spend
Although AMD Ryzen 9900x3d and 9950x3D processors are expensive, the company has made the intelligent decision to maintain prices consisting of previous generation versions (7900x3d and 7950x3d) of 2023. If generational performance profits are strong enough to consider investing in something we will only know after exhaustive tests, but that they take into account the benefits of AM4 Am4 should advance in the public.
The way in which the AMD 3D V-Cache works is to have a dedicated group of L3 memory stacked in the chip that acts as a short-term resource (but incredibly fast) so that the processor access immediate data, so that the games are faster and the lowest rendering times than what is seen from the processors without a surplus of L3 cache / V-Cache. When accessing the data so close to the CPU nuclei, there is less delay between the processes and the highest performance as a result.
That said, the AMD chips sets with a higher TDP can (generally) overcome the lowest 3D TDP options when it comes to productivity and synthetic performance. However, players and content creators will notice the advantage in the performance thanks to the 3D V-Cache. It is a curious decision (but welcome) to see the Ryzen 9 9900x3D and 9950x3D with TDP identical to its non -3D counterparts. Therefore, we could see improved performance in all areas.
