American ski jumper Annika Belshaw was disqualified for a similar reason as Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Belshaw was disqualified from the women’s big hill competition for having skis that were too long. Officials determined that the length of his ski was 1 centimeter longer than the correct size. She was ready to compete in the finals after passing the qualification round.

But his hopes of reaching the podium were dashed.
Norwegians Anna Odine Strom and Eirin Maria Kvandal won gold and silver medals respectively. Slovenia’s Nika Prevc won the bronze medal.
Belshaw, 23, was competing in her first Olympic Games. She was named 2022 Ski Jumping Athlete of the Year by the US Ski and Snowboard Federation. She competed in the regular hill competition and finished in 21st place.

The United States also finished in seventh place in the mixed team regular hill event.
A similar incident occurred with Tschofenig.
The Austrian star was disqualified from the event because her boots did not meet Olympic requirements. His boots were four millimeters above standard.

“In training I wore new shoes, which, by the way, I was not very happy with, but I kept them,” he told AFP. “Unfortunately, I was naive and didn’t check the sizes. It was incredibly stupid of me.”
