American espionage agencies declare TTP as ‘future threat’

Islamabad:

Up to 18 American intelligence agencies have declared the prohibited Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as a “possible future threat” for Washington.

A 30-page report prepared by the agencies and published on Tuesday in southern Asia, Tehreek-E-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operations in recent years have focused exclusively on attacking the Pakistan government, probably to avoid generating more anti-terrorist pressure.

“However, TTP capabilities, historical ties with Al-Qaeda and support prior to operations addressed to the United States keep us worried about the possible future threat,” says the report.

Pakistan has long warned the international community, including the United States, about the global threat that the TTP represents. However, regional and international players have largely seen the group as a threat confined to Pakistan.

The last evaluation of the United States intelligence community seems to have changed the approach.

Official sources told The Express PAkGazette that it was a welcome development that finally the United States realized the danger that the TTP represents.

The recognition of TTP as a threat to the United States could strengthen Pakistan’s struggle against terrorist outfits. It can relive cooperation between Pakistan and the United States, while the pressure on Afghanistan increases.

Pakistan has constantly maintained that the TTP operates from the Afghan floor. This evaluation was also corroborated by the UN monitoring team, which described the TTP as the greatest terrorist team in Afghanistan under the Taliban government.

Meanwhile, the report of the US intelligence agencies also described ISIS an important global threat. “The most aggressive branches of ISIS, including ISIS-KHORASAN (ISIS-K), and their business conspirators will continue to attack the West, including the United States, through the dissemination and propaganda online aimed at directing, enabling or inspiring attacks, and could exploit vulnerable travel routes.”

“ISIS-K in southern Asia is the most capable branch of the group most capable of carrying out external terrorist attacks and maintains the intention of attacking in South and Central Asia, already worldwide, although their capabilities vary,” he adds.

“The attacks of massive Victims of ISIS-K in Russia and Iran in 2024, as well as the arrests of ISIS-K supporters in Europe and the United States, highlight the ability to expand the group beyond southern Asia and the ability to inspire people to carry out attacks abroad,” he says.

Pakistan recently captured Muhammad Sharifullah, one of the intellectual authors of the Kabul Airport of August 2021. The suspect was delivered to the United States, something that won a rare praise for Pakistan of the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
