The iconic QuickShot II joystick from the ’80s is back, courtesy of British retro hardware brand Retro Games.
Available today under the rather clumsy name ‘TheQuickshot II’, it costs just £29.99 (that’s about $40) and is fully compatible with modern PCs. The design closely resembles the original, a popular choice for Commodore 64 owners during the 1980s and 1990s, save for a few tweaks, such as the switch to a modern USB Type-A cable interface.

The feel has also been meticulously recreated, with the original shape and tactile-like internal microswitches that are perfect for fast-paced arcade games. There’s even the old fast auto-trigger switch (used to activate fast repeat inputs), which has been carefully redesigned to work with modern hardware.
For compatibility reasons, some new buttons have been added to the base to reflect the inputs available on a standard modern controller. In theory, it should work with pretty much anything, although it would obviously feel more at home paired with any of the top arcade games.
Given the relatively low price, TheQuickshot II seems like the perfect impulse purchase for anyone hankering for some vintage gaming, or potentially an affordable gift for the Commodore 64 lover in your life.
