The influence of Nick Saban continues in Alabama even though he is no longer the chief coach of Crimson Tide.

This time, it has nothing to do with football. It implies an ancient species of crab.

Saban has been honored by the Faculty of the University of Alabama, since the archaeologists who work for school discovered an ancient species of crab and appointed him after the coach who took six national titles to the crimson tide.

“A team led by researchers at the University of Alabama has discovered several old fossils of crabs and shrimp from the center of Alabama, including one that has appointed the legendary football coach Nick Saban,” said a press release from the University. “The official name of the crab is Costacopopuma Nicksabani, but the Saban crab can be called, to abbreviate.”

Saban’s crab was discovered in Lowndes County, Alabama, and it is believed that there were between 48 million and 87 million years.

It is also believed that crabs of this species survived after a meteorite hit the earth about 66 million years ago, the infamous event that led to the extinction of dinosaurs.

“The name of the species not only honors Nick Saban because he won six national championships and nine sec with Crimson Tide of 2007-2023, but his dedication to Nick’s Children’s Foundation continues to have a tremendously positively positive impact for children in Alabama and beyond,” said Adiel Klompmaker, lead author of the study, in a press release.

Saban’s crab was the most common of about 200 specimens discovered on the site in Lowndes County.

“Crustacean decapod fauna is quite remarkable and contains, in addition to Saban’s crab, seven other species, including other new species of crab, two other crabs, an hermit crab and three excavated shrimp,” Klompmaker added. “We also erect a new crab and a new genre of shrimp of burrow to better classify two species in the tree of Decapods.”

This news occurs when Saban will return to his old land in Tuscaloosa this Saturday when his “College Gameday” team in ESPN will organize his program prior to the game on the campus before Crimson Tide Vanderbilt’s face.
