- First images of the next live update function of Android revealed
- Feeling similar to the live activities of iOS
- Live updates currently only work in the last beta QPR1 Android 16, but they should implement the next quarter widely
Google released its next live updates function at this year’s Google I/O event, and although Android 16 Rmit out has begun, it will not be widely available for other months.
Meanwhile, Google has launched new ideas to its version of LIVE activities of iOS, including what type of applications will admit the function.
Android 16 live updates are similar to live activities in iOS, which shows timely information and notifications of ‘progress style’ on its blocking screen that are frequently updated, which means that you will not have to open applications to see your status. At the moment, Live currentates is only functional in the last beta qpr1 Android 16, but it is expected to land with the wider Android 16 that will be displayed later in the year.
Since it was first observed on Google I/O, the functionality and the appearance of the characteristic themselves have remained ambiguous, but a recent publication on the Android Developers page gives more details about what we can expect from the live updates, including a first look at the function in action.
In the Android publication, live updates will be used ‘for activities that are continuous, started by the user and sensitive to time’. Similar to live activities in iOS, the live updates of Android 16 will admit phone calls, food tracking and shared trips, and ‘active navigation’ for applications that show live progress live like Google Maps.
Google even enters details about how developers should show live updates when it comes to time sensitive, using the following explanation:
‘A live update is often appropriate for activities that make the transition between live updates and normal notifications. For example, showing a boarding pass notification is appropriate many hours before a user’s flight, but the notification must become a live update only when the user has a pressing need, such as when he has arrived at the airport or a place or once it has begun. On the contrary, a live update is not appropriate to track a package, since the user does not need to constantly monitor. ‘
Android has its limits
Although Google has given us the long -awaited visual vision for live updates, the company has also been clear with application developers that the function should not be abused.
In its publication, Google has been quite explicit with this, indicating ‘does not use live updates to offer accelerated access to application functionality’. Ads, promotions, chat messages, alerts, upcoming calendar events and rapid access to application characteristics have been considered “inappropriate uses.”
Now the only key detail is an official displacement date for live updates. As mentioned above, Live currentates is only available with the last Android 16 QPR1 Beta, but the findings of Android Authority suggest that the applications will begin to lean in this function the next quarter when the update is expected to be launched.
