The Annual Convention of the National Broadcasters Association (NAB) is launched tomorrow, April 5, 2025, in Las Vegas, and one of the first news related to the program to reach my mailbox details a new Digital TV tuner ATSC 3.0 of the Electronics Adth manufacturer.
The Adth Nextgen TV USB is an adapter of $ 69.99 that offers a low cost of updating any TV with an intelligent television system of Android, Google or Fire TV to receive TV channels transmitted in the TV FORSC 3.0 NEXTGGE format, which provides benefits such as High High Dynamic Range Support
Some of the best brands of brands such as Samsung, Sony, Hisense, TCL and Panasonic have incorporated ATSC 3.0 tuners, but the function has not yet been universally implemented. This situation has created a market niche for external tuning tunners, most of which cost $ 200 and more, which makes the ATSC 3.0 compatibility a expensive update.
Now, with an external tuner that is sold for less than $ 70, update a TV with ASC 3.0 will be an easier concept to receive for a strongest wide spectators.
ATSC 3.0: Why do you need it?
According to the ATSC, a group of the industry that develops the standards used for the transmission of television and radio, ATSC 3.0 or Nextgen TV, is on the way to soon reach 80% of the spectators in the US. UU. (See the most recent coverage map below).
Together with a high dynamic range (including the Dolby Vision and HDR10+) and Dolby Atmos Audio formats, the benefits offered by ATSC 3.0 on the ATSC 1.0 transmission system (which is still active and is compatible even by televisions with ATSC 3.0 tuners) include interactive features such as personalized programs guides and even games.
The format also admits the 4K transmission, although that function has not yet been implemented and so far seems to be eclipsed by HDR, which can be applied to 1080p transmissions and has already been widely used for sports and other programs.
While many television manufacturers now provide ATSC 3.0 tuners on their televisions, in some cases the function is reserved for the highest -end models. Samsung’s 2025 TVs, such as the Samsung QN990F, for example, provide ATSC 3.0 support, while some of their 4K models have an ATSC 1.0 tuner.
LG also used to include an ATSC 3.0 tuner on its Oled TVs of the G series, such as the LG G3. However, from 2024, LG ceased ATSC 3.0 support for all its televisions, which makes an external tuner a necessity to receive ATSC 3.0 transmissions.
Clearly, the popular TV OLED of LG would be perfect for a relatively cheap additional device such as the Adth Nextgen TV USB, which connects to a USB port on a TV and connects to one of the best covered TV antennas.
But brands such as LG and Samsung use a patented smart interface for their televisions (webos for LG, Tizen for Samsung) and, as mentioned above, ADTH USB receiver only works with the Android TV TV systems, Google TV and Fire TV Smart TV.
Will LG bring back the ATSC 3.0 support to its televisions, and Samsung will begin to implement it in lower cost models? That is impossible to say.
The ATSC 3.0 support is growing, as Clearly demonstrates, which added ATSC 3.0 tuning to its 2025 television line. Until then, many spectators will have to depend on external solutions and, unlike the new Adth USB receptor, they will not be cheap.
