- Xiaomi has listed the Black Shark gaming tablet on its global site, suggesting it will have a wide release
- Lenovo has unveiled its own new gaming tablet, called the Legion Y700
- The price and availability of these two tablets are yet to be confirmed.
It’s not often that we write about new gaming tablets, as this area seems even more niche than gaming phones, but that could be about to change, as two of these tablets appear to be arriving imminently.
First up, we have the Xiaomi Black Shark gaming tablet, a device that was teased late last year, but at the time it was unclear if it would be released outside of China. Now it looks like it will, as Xiaomi has added the tablet to its global Black Shark site.
Unfortunately, you can’t order it yet, and in fact there’s no release date or price, but its presence there suggests it’s coming soon and could be widely available.
However, at least we know its specifications, as it is listed with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, an 8.8-inch 1600 x 2560 display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a 7,300mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, and the option of a black or silver finish.
It also has a “large VC heat dissipation plate, multiple graphene sheets and a metal cooling structure” to keep it cool, and there’s also a game mode that mutes calls and messages and maximizes performance.
Lenovo’s latest Legion
Next up is the Lenovo Legion Y700, which Lenovo has previewed on Weibo (via Android Authority). The company hasn’t said much about it other than mentioning AI, but leaker Digital Chat Station claims it will have an 8.8-inch LCD display with a 165Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 9,000+ mAh battery, and a 50MP camera.
It will reportedly arrive in March, but it’s unclear if it will launch beyond China. Still, it’s good to see some new gaming tablets arriving, at least one of which should be widely available.
Sure, it’s a niche space, especially since things like the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch 2 are arguably more specialized alternatives, but there will definitely be some people who would prefer to have a gaming tablet.
