One of Angel Reese’s teammates defended himself Tuesday night after the defeat of Chicago Sky against the current New York Liberty champion.

New York has 9-0 to start the season, while Reese’s Sky fell to 2-6.

After the game, Reese was asked about the online scrutiny she faces.

Reese was excited while answering the question, which is when Ariel Atkins, which spent last season with the MiStics of Washington, intervened.

“Can I say something? This is a 23 -year -old boy, and the amount of garbage he gets from a day to day, then appears. Then, any question about our team, in terms of basketball, we appreciate it. All other nonsense, is irrelevant,” Atkins said while sitting next to Reese, through ESPN.

“We are here to play basketball. We are having a bad time at the end of the day. This is a 23 -year -old girl who is handled with grace. Her crown is heavy. So, anything else they want for which she approaches her, needs to have a wall. Because if she does not, people will tear it down. Not only because of the way she looks, but also because of the way she takes it to herself.

“She not only walks and acts as ‘Oh, I’m this.’ She knows who she is, and we are not going to break it over.

Reese has been found in a rivalry with Caitlin Clark and Faver and Iowa Hawkeyes fans. Reese said he experienced racism of both groups last year.

It all started when Reese hit Clark with a mockery of “You Can’t see me” in the last seconds of the 2023 National Championship. Reese later said that fans are seeing female basketball “not only for a person, but also for me.”

In his first game this season, Clark hit Reese with a flagrant foul, and Reese had to be held from Clark. Subsequently, Reese shared a Tiktok that said he was “insecure” playing in Indiana against Clark.

The WNBA investigated the “hateful comments” statements towards Reese by fever fans that were finally “not justified.”
