Another case of police excesses emerges

HARIPUR:

After Peshawar, a case of police excesses emerged in Haripur, where a senior police officer allegedly beat up a filling station attendant for refusing to serve his son.

A report submitted to the district police officer’s office (DPO0) stated that SHO SI Muhammad Nawaz’s son had gone to a filling station in Batrassi area of Haripur to get fuel for his motorcycle. Since he was not wearing a mask or helmet, the employee on duty refused to provide the service according to a campaign carried out by the district police.

At that time, Additional SHO Nawaz and his driver reached the fuel station where they beat up the workers. Nawaz’s driver also allegedly snatched cash from the teller’s pocket and then fled.

Later, the owner of the service station and the workers approached the DPO and urged him to intervene. The DPO took notice of the incident, suspended Nawaz and launched an investigation.

The report further showed that the additional SHO had earlier been found guilty of framing a man in a false case and allegedly accepted a bribe to drop the case.
