- Those located in Austin of the San Fran Bay area can join a waiting list
- Android users will be compatible with a later date
- Tesla expands the Robotaxi service area, but places the security controller in the driver’s seat
Tesla has taken Elon Musk X Social Network Platform To announce the fact that its Robotaxi smartphone application has now opened to anyone with an Apple iPhone, as the project goes beyond a carefully selected VIP list and the first Tesla users of trust to the general public.
Just out of recent news that the company was expanding once again its presence in Austin, Texas, by increasing the size of its geofense operation area and adding more cars to the fleet, Tesla says that the transport application is now open to the public.
Currently, all iPhone users in the USA can download the application and register to join a waiting list. But it is not clear how long it will happen before users can take a trip, whether the service extends beyond Austin to San Francisco or how many vehicles the company is currently executing.
Until now, Tesla has only publicly declared that the number of cars available by 50%has increased, according to An X publication in August of this year.
Tesla also states that Android users will be able to download a Dedicated Robotaxi application in the coming months.
Driver’s seat security
Opening the application to the public is clearly an indicator that Tesla takes the expansion quickly of its service seriously, but the company has been particularly cautious about numbers and achievements.
Now Tesla has expanded its operational area beyond the streets of the slow city to faster road sections, it has clearly considered it necessary to have an operator in the hot seat in case they have to take charge during faster and more dangerous road sections.
As Electrek points out, Tesla Robotaxi is just a “full -driving demonstration trip (FSD) on a larger scale” at this time, instead of a truly autonomous taxi service.
If you want one of those, it is better to download the Waymo application, since it has more than 2,000 totally autonomous vehicles that operate in six main cities and regions in the United States … With no anyone behind the wheel.
