- Apple Carplay is configured to admit video playback

As with all iOS updates, iOS 26 will bring some changes to the Carplay interface that appears when your iPhone is connected to your vehicle, and Apple has now silently confirmed that one of those changes will be compatible with video reproduction.
This was not mentioned in the great revelation of iOS 26 on WWDC 2025, but as seen by Macrumors, now appears as a feature on the Apple Developers website. We hope that iOS 26 will extend to the masses in September.
“The AirPlay video in the car allows people to see their favorite videos from iPhone right on its Carplay screen when they don’t drive,” says the site. “Integrate the support for Carplay with Video AirPlay to enable this function in your car.”
And that is the capture: car manufacturers must enable this characteristic separately to the rest of the Carplay functionality, so it is possible that it does not appear in each vehicle, and can be restricted by local security regulations worldwide.

The videos, of course, would distract too much for drivers, so this will only work when a car is parked. It is possible that Apple has not mentioned it before now because it is not safe how wide it will be compatible, at least initially.
The AirPlay transmission standard that is implemented here is the predetermined implemented by Apple in its other devices, including the Apple TV 4K box. It is worth noting that, although many iOS applications support AirPlay for transmission, Netflix no.
This is a movement that Apple really had to do: incorporated options for car manufacturers such as Tesla, BMW and Mercedes already offer video reproduction, and the function is also directed to Android Auto. Apple will not want your Carplay interface to stay behind.
