- iOS 18.5 It makes it easier to simplify your Apple Mail experience on iPhone
- The default mail application obtained new categorization functions in iOS 18.2
- Beta’s latest options to disable some of these characteristics to more accessible locations
Apple has launched the first beta version of iOS 18.5 for developers, a few days after issuing iOS 18.4 for public launch, and presents an orderly way to reverse a controversial change.
Although IOS 18.4 brought several new features to the iPhone, such as priority notifications and the lovely function of environmental music, iOS 18.5 is until now lighter in significant additions to the iPhone experience.
That said, as 9to5Mac points out, the beta version apparently makes it easier to reverse a controversial change to the default email application of the iPhone.
The mail application obtained a redesign in iOS 18.2, adding Apple’s intelligence categories and characteristics to what was previously one of Apple’s simplest mobile applications.
Since email was one of the main functions of a modern smartphone, some users were not satisfied with such an important shaking: a Reddit thread in the R/iPhone Subnetdit, for example, contains many annoying commentators that lament the new categorization functions.
IOS 18.5 Move some options, which makes it easier to change. Previously, an accessible menu in the upper right corner of the application home page allowed users to change between the category view and the list view, but now, options have been added to disable the group by sender and contact photos.
This should make it faster and faster for users to return to a simpler mail application experience, while making new features more accessible as they are required.
It is worth noting that Apple never made it impossible to disable the email characteristics added in iOS 18.2, these were always optional additions. In fact, we have a dedicated piece on how to deactivate email categories on iPhone, or customize them to their needs, if you are not a fan of the new default configuration of Apple.
As for other aspects of iOS 18.5 Beta 1, the notes of the official version are quite light on the information. There are some errors corrections for the Vision Pro application and Apple Intelligence Function writing tools, as well as for the Storekit developer framework.
Let us know how you feel about these changes in the mail application, as well as anything else you would like to see with iOS 18.5, in the comments below. We will have the latest updates while listening to them through our dedicated coverage of iOS.
