- Apple can be developing a dedicated game application for iOS, macOS and more
- The application will contain things like achievements, classification tables and messages.
- It could be announced on WWDC in June
For years, Apple has been trying to convince the world that games is being taken seriously, and with the popularity of iOS games and the appearance of AAA titles as Cyberpunk 2077 In macOS, there is something really in the company’s statement.
In case you will need more convincing, there is a new rumor of Bloomberg Mark Gurman’s reporter that Apple will soon launch a game dedicated in iOS 19 to take the players to their platforms. As a MAC owned player, I am cautiously optimistic about rumors, even if we still need hardware and more affordable games before being a Windows competitor.
If the news was lost, the application will apparently “serve as a pitcher for titles and centralize the achievements in the game, classification tables, communications and other activities,” said Gurman, adding that he will also have “Apple editorial content on new titles, offers access to the APP Store Games section and will promote the APP Store Games section [Apple] Arcada. “It is expected to be revealed in iOS, macos, iPados and tvos as soon as the WWDC 2025 Apple event on June 9.
The movement makes sense: after all, the iPhone is a phenomenally popular game platform, and announce a movement like this on WWDC could help consolidate the popularity of iOS 19 before it comes out through the door. Apple could also expect more players to change Windows to the platforms of the Cupertino firm, but at this point, I am not completely convinced.
Choice destination for players
This application could work well in iOS 19, where games tend to be a bit more informal than on desktop computers. But things can be very different in macOS.
As a player who also has a Mac, he encouraged me in recent years Apple’s advances in the world of games. It is not yet close to Windows parity, but today’s situation is much better than it was a few years ago.
For a long time, the problem was the nature of chicken and egg of Mac Gaming. The players did not want to change macOS due to the lack of games, and the developers did not want to take games to the MAC due to the lack of players. That is beginning to change slowly, with renowned titles as Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Shadowsand Baldur Puerta 3 Helping to dissipate the idea that MAC is a game for games.
However, the impact of a dedicated game application will probably be limited. Beyond my statement that players care more about the availability of hardware and games than launchers applications, Gurman is also skeptical, and says that “software testers say that the perception between the players and creators of high -end titles will probably not change.”
Any advance for games on Apple platforms is welcome in my eyes, and this application could help making games more prominent among iOS and MacOS users. But what is really needed, at least in Mac at least, is a greater number of titles that attract attention and more affordable access to the components that offer exceptional game performance.
Until that happens, Windows will always be the destination of choice for players.
