- Arch Raiders Design lead Virgil Watkins says Embark Studios is happy with the current final cycle, but would like to “step up” the PvE experience.
- He says “continuing to climb is where we hope to grow next.”
- The developer also mentioned the Giant Bows in the background, but couldn’t say if there are plans to add them as killable bosses.
Embark Studios is considering plans to evolve Arch Raiders‘Endgame loop through PvE escalation (player vs. environment).
That’s according to Arc Raiders design lead Virgil Watkins in a recent interview with GamesRadar+, who discussed the current endgame scenario of killing Queens and Matriarchs to farm weapons that kill them better.
Watkins explained that while the team is “pretty happy” with the current state, “I don’t think we can live on that forever.”
“I think eventually, if we introduce another giant six-legged spider robot, it’s like, ‘Okay, we’ve got it,'” Watkins said. “So yeah, I think we’re looking at where we take those types of experiences in the future to something more or something additional, seeing how we can scale the experience for the player on the PvE side.”
Watkins added that Embark has noticed how players have become “sophisticated in their approach” to taking down drones and believes that “continuing to scale is where we’re looking to grow next.”
Speaking about those giant bows that players can spot wandering around in the background, which some players have dubbed “The Emperor,” Embark said he currently has no plans to feature them as killable bosses, because he’s worried the servers might explode. For now, it seems like a technical hurdle, but it would be great to overcome it.
“We want to go where it’s practical for us, or where we find it fun, but then you start to run into the practical side of: Will this blow up the server? Can it even support this kind of thing?” Watkins said.
“Our ambitions are definitely big, and I’m not going to say you’re going to fulfill one anytime soon, but obviously you see the giants walking around in the background and stuff.”
